Arkansas Family Literacy Partnership - Even Start Statewide Family Literacy Initiative

The family literacy model builds a link between parents' education and childrens' academic achievement. While the primary goal of this effort is to improve the child's academic success, it also provides the adult a means of assistance for their own educational needs.

A child's environment and social experience have a long-term impact on their
well-being and ability to learn. There are numerous factors that support the family literacy model. It has been proven that children do better in school when parents are involved in their education. (National Center for Family Literacy 2002)
